Mung beans, also known as "green grams" or "maash" are small, green legumes with a rich history dating back to 1500 BC in the Indian subcontinent. From there, they spread to other parts of Asia and eventually to Latin America, where they are known by various names like 🇲🇽 🇨🇴 frijoles mungo, 🇵🇷 frijol chino, 🇵🇪 fréjolito chino, 🇨🇱 poróta mung, and 🇦🇷 judía mungo. Today, mung beans are cultivated and consumed worldwide due to their versatility, nutritional value, and ease of incorporation into various cuisines.
